According to Article 48 of the Graduate School Regulations and the Masters Thesis Substitution Guidelines, we provide the following details for thesis substitution applications for the Spring Semester 2025. Students who meet the criteria should submit their applications within the given period.

1. Thesis Advisor Requirement: Students applying for thesis substitution do not need to choose a thesis advisor.

   * If you plan to replace your thesis through publication in a journal or by being featured in a literary magazine, you may select a thesis advisor.

2. Application Process:

   a. Print and Submit: After applying online, print out the Thesis Substitution Request Form (논문대체희망원) and submit it to your department. Your department will forward it to the Graduate School Administrative Team.

   b. Eligibility: Students enrolled in departments where thesis replacement is possible (eligible from the second semester; once the application is processed, it will be maintained until the graduation semester).

   c. Application Dates: September 2, 2024 (Monday) to September 13, 2024 (Friday).

   d. How to Apply: Go to the EDWARD system (Academics Graduation  Thesis/Dissertation Management  Application for Thesis Presentation (Thesis Substitute)).

3. Substitution Requirements:

A. Complete Additional Credits (9 Credits):

  1) Requirement: You need to earn 9 additional credits beyond the 24 credits required for graduation. These credits will count from the semester you submit your substitution request.

  2) Notes:

Credits over the required 24 will count as substitution credits starting from the semester of submission.

No more than 9 credits can be taken per semester, so plan your courses accordingly.

If you do not complete the 9 additional credits, you will need to go through the Registration for Completion (수료 등록) process and complete the remaining credits after graduation.

B. Academic Journal Publication:

  1) Requirement: Publish a paper as the first or corresponding author in a journal indexed in KCI or higher.

  2) Publication Deadline: The paper must be published by the end of the regular exam period of your graduation semester.

  3) Affiliation: The paper must list Keimyung University as the authors affiliation.

C. Literary Publication (For Creative Writing Department Only):

  1) Requirement: Publish in major daily newspapers, New Years literary contests, or central literary journals. Previously published works in central journals are acceptable.

  2) Points: The work should be equivalent to 50 points in faculty research evaluations.

  3) Accepted Journals: The journals must be on the faculty performance evaluation list.

  b. Application period: Semester: Final (graduation) semester.
